About
Alex is thankful to be a part of the warm, caring, and supportive team of therapists at Cares
Counselling. She considers it a true privilege to come alongside clients as they strive for
growth, healing, and thriving relationships. Always eager to connect with clients and hear their
unique stories, Alex’s practical, down-to-earth approach allows her to engage well with her
clients, offering fresh perspectives and opportunities to embrace personal exploration.
Alex’s therapeutic approach is primarily a third-wave CBT approach known as Acceptance and
Commitment Therapy (ACT). She enjoys the opportunity to work with clients to implement
positive changes through well-researched strategies and techniques. Alex also believes in the
healing power of secure, nurturing connections and she is committed to working with clients to
build strong, interpersonal relationships. Alex has a passion for learning/reading/research and a
great deal of Alex’s continuing education is in the areas of relational awareness, personal
boundaries, couples counselling, parenting (especially parenting teens and emerging adults),
and she is currently completing her certification as an ADHD professional (ADHD-CCSP) with a
special focus on adult ADHD.
Alex completed her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and is a Canadian Certified
Counsellor and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. She
did her undergraduate work in Psychology/Neuroscience at U.B.C. many years ago and took
the years between her formal studies to immerse herself in the work and play of family life. Alex
and her husband have four active and highly entertaining grown and almost-grown children that
keep life interesting!
