Mae Santiago-Shupe


M. Mae L. Santiago-Shupe is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist and Supervisor Mentor for the Canadian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.  She provides clinical consultation for registered staff at Cares and supports the Cares Clinical Intern Supervisor with supervision and support for the Interns who work at Cares.  She also sees a small number of clients at Cares providing individual/couples/family therapy.

Mae received a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California.  She has been in the field for over 30 years, providing therapy, supervision, consultation, and education.  She has worked in numerous environments from community service agencies, schools, universities, hospitals, prisons, as well as in home, in office and online services.  Mae is also a Clinical Member and an Approved Supervisor with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Mae’s personal supervision philosophy is one of educating, supporting and challenging clinicians regarding the work they are providing for their clients. She works at helping both clinicians and clients to work towards health and continued growth, relationally, emotionally, physically, mentally, and/or spiritually.  Whether it is with clients or supervisees she believes in working from a systemic framework using the many different MFT systems theories as the foundation for the work she provides.  Her understanding of the many different family systems models gives her the skills to help the Cares clinicians provide solid therapy to their clients andthe clients she provides support to.

          · Trauma and violence

When Mae is not providing consultation or therapy at Cares, she has a private practice where she provides in- office sessions in Maple Ridge and online through video chat.  She also provides in person and online webinars on mental health for Homewood Health.

She enjoys her relationship with her family and friends as well as sports and traveling.
