About
Marlayne has been a therapist at Cares since 1997 and supervises our team of master’s level interns. She has completed training in Clinical Supervision and meets with each intern weekly to review their client work and ensure they receive the support they need to provide quality counselling to their clients. Marlayne is passionate about working with new therapists as they grow in their skills and confidence, implement a variety of modalities, and discover their areas of interest. She also facilitates a monthly internship group for our interns to provide training and case consultation.
In her supervision and client work Marlayne works from an attachment based perspective and believes that change happens within the context of healthy relationships with self and others. She utilizes emotionally focused therapy, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy and the Gottman method. Marlayne also comes from a trauma informed viewpoint and recognizes that providing a safe, non-judgmental environment is foundational for clients to engage in the hard work of changing unhealthy patterns.
Marlayne has a Masters Degree in Counseling and is a Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association
“If we want to live and love with our whole hearts and if we want to engage with the world from a place of worthiness, we have to talk about the things that get in the way-especially shame, fear and vulnerability.” -Brene Brown
